The Philippines chaired the 11th BIMP-EAGA Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Cluster Meeting last August 13-14, 2024 at Sabah International Convention Center, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Presided over by DICT Director Cheryl Ortega, the meeting discussed various programs and projects under BIMP-EAGA Vision (BEV) 2025 which included projects on digital infrastructure, e-commerce promotion, ICT HR Development and Innovation, and technopreneurship.
Discussions on digital infrastructure focused on the status of the BEST Cable Project, MEASAT Satellite Internet, and IRIX Data Center Services. Setting up a BIMP-EAGA marketplace in Shopee and Lazada to promote better EAGA online startup businesses on various e-commerce platforms was also deliberated.
Meanwhile, on HR development, the ICT CEO Forum offered an online platform in assessing English Proficiency and also tackled the importance of developing digital skills in Artificial Intelligence, Internet-of-Things (IoT), cybersecurity, and Industry 4.0, among others.
The Philippine delegation was comprised of DICT, National Telecommunication Commission (NTC), Palawan-startup tech company Farm Konekt, and MinDA as the Philippine Coordinating Office for BIMP-EAGA (PCOBE).
Meanwhile, ICT development forms part of Agenda 7 on Digital Transformation and Innovation of MinDA's Mindanao 2030 Agenda. This is aligned with the Marcos administration's national roadmap on digital infrastructure development, aimed at facilitating the attainment of the 'Bagong Pilipinas' legacy of growth and progress.
